Alycia Regan Named 2007 Youth of the Year The lovely and artistic Alycia Regan was chosen to represent Wallingford Boys & Girls Club as its Youth of the Year for 2007. Alycia, a sophomore at Nova High School, is 16-years-old and has been coming to the Club since she was eight. Over the years, she has participated in many Club activities, including Drop-In, Torch Club, the Counselor-in-Training program, and she currently serves as the Keystone Club president. Recently, Alycia was hired on to be a staffperson at the Club and is currently a program assistant in the Drop-In program, where she is a favorite with the younger members. "Alycia is a person that is really comfortable in her own skin and takes responsibility for herself," said WBGC Operations Director Meghan Sweet. I've known Alycia for eight years and she has grown up a lot at the Club. It's really amazing that tone day she was doing third-grade math facts in the Learning Center and now she's helping younger kids with thier homework at the same table." At the Youth of the Year event, held at Benaroya Hall on February 8th, there were many staff, friends, and community members there to cheer Alycia on. Each youth gives a speech on what the Boys & Girls Club means to htem. In Alycia's speech, she spoke about how the staff at WBGC positively impacted her life by encouraging her artwork and accepting her for the unique person that she is. "I honestly do not know where my life would be without the support I've received at the Boys & Girls Club," Alycia said. February 2007 |
