Grand Opening of 45th Street Club is a Major Success

Wallingford Boys and Girls Club's main club unit made a triumphant return to its original location near the corner of 45th Street and Stone Way on Saturday, July 7th.

More than 200 attendees packed the building during the three-hour open house that began when Boys & Girls Clubs of King County CEO Daniel Johnson helped Club Member Becca R. cut the giant red bow off the front doors.  Before the ribbon-cutting ceremony, about 80 members, families and supporters walked in the Wallingford Kiddies Parade, waving at the crowd and celebrating the Club's rich history with signs and period costumes.

"I'm really excited to be at the new Club," said 11-year-old Chris B.  "I've been coming to the Boys & Girls Club since I was in Kindergarten and this is the first time I've been in this building.  I didn't know it would be so cool."

One of the Club's biggest supporters, Suzie Burke, was on hand to help get the crowd excited about the opening.  Burke spoke about how important the Club is to the community, before inviting everyone in to check out the new building.

The crowd was excited to tour the renovated facilities, checking out the brand new game tables, computer lab, teen center, and even playing a little pick-up basketball in the gym.  Complimentary treats were provided by the Club's old-fashioned popcorn and sno-cone makers, and many attendees purchased a commemorative t-shirt.

"This is a good day," said Senior Program Director Adam Monda, a 14-year staff veteran.  "We've waited a long time for this
